She Has Arrived...

After nine months of waiting, the day finally came where we got to meet our little girl.  First appearing at 12:08 am on August 13th, Madeline Delaney Vincent came into this world weighing in at 5 lbs / 11 ozs.

We won't say that the delivery went smoothly.  Due to Meaghan's high blood pressure, it was decided that she would be induced at 39 weeks so we went in at 8:00 am on Sunday August 11th to get the process started.  Maddie didn't really want to come out so after 36 hours of trying to induce labor, it was decided that a c-section would probably be necessary.  She was having drops in her heart rate during Meaghan's contractions, so it was thought that she wouldn't take well to the active labor process.

Everything went well with the surgery and the kid had finally arrived.  She did take a while to wake up, I guess she liked being in-utero, but overall everything went well and we were chilling in the recovery room by 1:00 am.   Since she was born just after 12:00 am, we got a couple of extra days in the hospital, so we settled into our private room with a wonderful view of the Texas Medical Center and stayed until Friday, enjoying room service and trying to get adjusted to parenthood.

Thursday evening Grandma & Grandpa Delaney arrived from Boston.  They stayed for the first ten days we were home, cooking dinner and giving Maddie lots of cuddles.  It was hard to say goodbye when returned home, but we will get to see them soon, as we head out to Boston for Uncle Matt's and Auntie Jo's wedding at the end of September.  Grammy and Papa Vincent will be coming out at the end September before we head back to work so she will get more family face time.

We have been adjusting to our new role as parents.  Sleep schedules have had to be synced and Maddie tends to be pretty fussy when she is hungry or needs her diaper changed.  I guess she likes her belly full and bottom clean.  Boy does that girl go through diapers.  2-3 diapers per hour at some points, so good thing we are on the auto-delivery program with Honest.com.

Adam had the opportunity to take a couple of months off from his job at Endicott Biofuels, so we have been enjoying our time at home and he has been helping with the feedings, driving to doctor appointments, and other tasks (laundry, dinner, etc.)  Definitely some quality family bonding.  He really enjoyed designing Maddie's nursery, spending lots of time on Etsy and other nursery design sites.  Check out the nursery on Project Nursery (http://projectnursery.com/projects/maddies-purple-grey-nursery/)

We look forward to watching our little girl grow up.  While she started out small, she gained almost 14 ozs in her first two weeks and is a serious eater, downing bottle after bottle during feeding time, so we are sure she will catch up soon.  We are definitely looking forward to cooler weather, as it is still a little hot out to our bayou walks and explore the local parks.  Looking forward to January/February when the weather is beautiful here, so feel free to come and visit if you like.
